2012 AUSTIN BEER GUIDE BEST OVERALL BEER (READERS' CHOICE)
Flavor swoops in (cue EAGLE SCREAM), grabs you by the face and flies you through the hop rainbow. At the peak of the ride it swoops back to earth and gently drops you back on your bar stool where you are refreshed, excited and ready to ride again. It’s hoppy, bold and American. It is a classic IPA to judge all others against. Say it loud, scream it proud, "Screeeeeeee!"
When we began in 2011 it was impossible to brew this Hoppy Pale Ale. The ingredients weren’t available and the science didn’t exist. Oil rich lupulin powder was just a dream. It brings intense flavor but doesn’t linger, drinks like a hop forward pale ale but doesn’t blow you up and every sip leaves you craving more. It’s so special we had to invent a whole new country to explain it. Welcome.
Peacemaker was the very first beer we decided to brew. It’s balanced, refreshing, and very sessionable. Peacemaker is simple, but we take it very seriously — a bold and clean beer with nothing to hide behind. It's the beer we drink the most at the brewery. And at home. And on the river. When you have a cold, bright, well-balanced beer like Peacemaker on hand, anytime is a good time to enjoy it.

Actually they get to make their own beer on our seven-barrel pilot system - It's called RAD Labs for Research and Development. That’s how Bloodwork began - with Nick Pratt and a citrusy dream. It was only available in our taproom but was in such high demand it has become our first year-round seasonal. It’s the Sicilain blood oranges added during fermentation that make this a citrus symphony for the senses.

You know what's nice about having a brewery? Brewing a style we all know well - the Mexican lager - and making it our own. It's still light and sessionable but with a ton of balanced flavor. We use Uber-premium German pilsner malt and a touch of Mucho-premium corn for character. It's a must have with Mexican food, barbecues and margaritas - try it you'll see. It's the truth.

RECORD SCREEEEECH.... WTF IS AGAVE WINE?!?
It’s very similar to tequila, it’s just made a little differently. Aguamiel or "honey water" is extracted from agave plants and is then fermented. The next step is what differentiates agave wine from tequila; instead of distilling the fermented aguamiel to make tequila, agave wine is then filtered and 100% de agave blanco Tequila is added to "fortify" the wine to 24% ABV.
FINE, BUT HOW DOES IT TASTE?
Just like a Ranch Water made with tequila, only we don’t have to water it down as much since we’re starting at 24%ABV instead of the typical 40%. If you like tequila, you’ll probably love this. If you don’t like tequila, you should buy a few cases of this just to be sure.

It takes us 8 weeks to ferment this special beer because there is absolutely nothing to hide behind. While most Germans would tell you Helles means light or bright – we know the true translation is “Hell! Those bearded Americans just out-brewed us!”
A flamboyant display of showmanship, Montecore magically balances malty sweetness, floral German hops, and a clean lager finish. This is a super traditional fest beer that features all German malts, hops and yeasts. The only thing American is the water. This is what an Oktoberfest should be. In hindsight, maybe brewing a black beer with a bold name was a bit much for the average beer drinker. But you knew. You weren’t intimidated. You understood this is a Schwarzbeir (also an intimidating name) - a classic German black lager. Like Pearl Snap. In fact it basically is Pearl Snap with dark malts added. But you knew that. Well now it’s only available for a limited time and you know not to miss its heralded comeback.

Oats. Cuvee Coffee. Alcohol. And we have liftoff! Like the sight of a comet, the appearance of Sputnik has the locals thanking the brewing gods. As Will says, “we get all science on this shit.” He has developed a proprietary way to introduce the coffee into the beer. We’ve seen it happen and we know a stopwatch and monocle are involved. What happens is it opens up the aromatics without adding any harshness. You get an intense coffee aroma and bold flavor that perfectly compliments the silky oats and high alcohol. It will take your taste buds to orbit.
