We brew what we like to drink.

That’s what inspired us to brew our Core Four beers year round. Sure some of our styles take a little longer to brew but, like a good brisket, it’s all worth it. So now, no matter what the situation – from fancy wedding to ill-advised shotgun challenge – there is a can for every occasion. Each one is a crisp, clean example of the style. Each is brewed so you can have more than one in a session. And every single sip is as bold and clean as the first. It’s all about having a strong core.

Flavor swoops in (cue EAGLE SCREAM), grabs you by the face and flies you through the hop rainbow. At the peak of the ride it swoops back to earth and gently drops you back on your bar stool where you are refreshed, excited and ready to ride again. It’s hoppy, bold and American.

If a stout and a pilsner had a lovechild, it would be Black Thunder. It would also be a miracle, because beer can’t “get it on.” This miniature powder keg starts with a roasted, bread-like complexity but finishes dry and clean like a pilsner. It’s dark, distinctive, and dry.

Peacemaker was the very first beer we decided to brew. It’s balanced, refreshing, and very sessionable. Peacemaker is simple, but we take it very seriously — a bold and clean beer with nothing to hide behind. It's the beer we drink the most at the brewery. And at home. And on the river. When you have a cold, bright, well-balanced beer like Peacemaker on hand, anytime is a good time to enjoy it.

This Belgian-style Golden Ale is Will’s favorite style to make. It’s also Will’s last name. William Golden Ale. True fact. It's fermented with an old school Belgian yeast strain that produces a crazy amount of esters so it smells like sunshine. The color shines like gold. The finish is very dry like a champagne. It’s strong and delicate at the same time. While you are admiring the strong aromatics and classy finish it’s quietly punching you in the back of the head.

Knock, knock. Who's there? Heisenberg, but how fast am I going? That joke contained references from a TV show and quantum physics. You'd have to be a big nerd to have gotten it. Luckily, the beer can be enjoyed by anyone. We brew a traditional hefeweizen, then filter it brilliantly clear. What's left is all those wonderful banana, clove, and bubblegum yeast characteristics but with a really light body and clean finish. That should remove any 'uncertainty' from your next beer choice. Ok, we're finished now.

The first day you feel the heat on your neck and realize that summer’s here – look to the west! The sky splits open and Einhorn soars down to our rescue with bloated udders filled with magical elixer. No, that’s not where the beer comes from silly – just the secret sauce that turns water into weisse. This Berliner Weisse is low in alcohol and highly carbonated. It’s a sour wheat that’s light, tart, refreshing and just perfect for this time of year. Einhorn will actually make you look forward to the Texas summer.

The axe drops in fall. Battle Axe is a supercharged ESB. It’s very strong and very balanced. English malt provides a caramelized sweetness on the front end and the American hops provide a full citrus/fruit finish. As big and bold as it is, it’s very easy to drink – deceptively so. Cause this imperial logs in at 8% ABV, just have one and you are set. Immediately. Any more than that and be ready for battle.

Oats. Cuvee Coffee. Alcohol. And we have liftoff! Like the sight of a comet, the appearance of Sputnik has the locals thanking the brewing gods. As Will says, “we get all science on this shit.” He has developed a proprietary way to introduce the coffee into the beer. We’ve seen it happen and we know a stopwatch and monocle are involved. What happens is it opens up the aromatics without adding any harshness. You get an intense coffee aroma and bold flavor that perfectly compliments the silky oats and high alcohol. It will take your taste buds to orbit.

We love having a beer at the brewery after work. Sometimes that's the only reason we even come to work. After a long day of slinging kegs or mucking out spent grain, we're usually in the mood for something light and clean. But sometimes we want something light that will also smack us around a little. That was the inspiration for Warmonger. It's not available all the time, but when it is we'll probably drink most of it ourselves.

This is our chance to shake off the gloves and go big. Big IPAs. Big cans. Big warning. Everything about this series is serious. So much in fact we’ve locked in our Pacific Northwest hop suppliers for years in advance. It’s the only way to guarantee the sweet stink of those Simcoe, Centennial and Citra hops. We designed the series to release a new batch every other month with a can you can read for the month in-between.

Black IPA

Available in January

Our Jedi-mind trick IPA in the series. First drink it from the can. Then pour it into one of our custom Heavy Machinery pint glasses and sip again. Is this the IPA you were looking for? The only thing you can be sure of is that it’s dry-hopped with Simcoe and has huge, pungent aromas of citrus and pine. Don’t let looks be deceiving - this isn't a hoppy stout, it's an IPA that just happens to be black.

Double IPA

Available in March

This is extreme in every way. Loaded with 6 pounds of hops per barrel, it immediately delivers huge citrus and pine aromas that pack as much punch as Sam Elliott’s mustache. Next comes the sweet bready body, but before you appreciate the malt profile your face is flush from the alcohol. It’s basically a free-fall of flavor. And you should only have one in a session. But don’t worry, the hop-burps will keep you company.

Half IPA

Available May – July

Here’s a secret: This is really an American Pale Ale. But we call it Half IPA because we do what we want. Light hop additions during the boil and tons of dry hopping with Simcoe and Citra mean the bitterness is low, but the hop flavor and aroma are high. Made specifically for summertime in Austin, it’s great for sitting poolside, dockside. If you don’t have a boat, it goes perfectly fine with a bowl of ice in your bathtub.

What we’ve got here is a Belgian Trippel, hopped like an IPA. Big bubblegum and fruity esters from the yeast combine with the citrus highlights of the hops. Doubletwin powers active! Every sip is as if you’re feeling Jean-Claude’s screaming splits kick right in the kisser. There’s no other way to put it: this beer will destroy you.

Wet Hop IPA

Available in September

Easily, the most special brew in the series because this can only happen once a year. Last year it was a Thursday. On the day our farmer in Oregon harvests the Centennial hops we start brewing. He boxes them up, kisses the label and ships them via Southwest Airlines Cargo (faster than FedEx). So within 12 hours of being picked it’s dropped into the kettle. That’s a wet hop. It’s the greenest, brightest, extra juiciest flavor that you can’t duplicate any other way. The sooner you drink it, the fresher the flavor. Don’t cherish this one – drink up!

English IPA

Available in November

I think we can agree that the English have few redeeming gastro qualities. And please don’t go on about their curries – cuisine stolen from a colony doesn’t count. However, when it came to creating a beer to ship to said colony, that’s where the English persevered! The India Pale Ale style is going to last longer than their empire and this our tribute to the original. It features East Kent Golding and Fuggle hops and a longer boil for the malt to replicate what would happen in an olde school boil kettle. Cheers!
